New marketing opportunities from Spiffing Publishing

We have some very interesting developments to share, which have been a result of our ongoing dialogue with professional indie authors and a new technical partner. Here’s a rundown of what we’ve been up to.

Our 5-step Marketing Strategy

As you may know, Spiffing is the only independent agency affiliated with Gardners (Wholesale Distributor for Waterstones etc.) and Nielsen Book Data (The ISBN Agency). Now, we’re also affiliated with the US team at Kindlepreneur. Kindlepreneur has given us some vital additional insight into effective book exposure, and, with the help of the Kindlepreneur software, we’re able to look directly into Amazon data, pulling out info and statistics which allow us to optimise your listing to increase sales page performance permanently. We call this Amazon SEO (Search Engine Optimisation).

We’re also now creating Amazon A+ content, graphics and content within the Amazon ecosystem, showcasing you as an author/publisher. These Amazon modules allow Google to index your book sales pages more effectively, meaning that your book will benefit more from searches coming from outside of Amazon. This is a very significant Amazon update.

We’ve refined our website offering to include a new, single-page variation which is quicker to navigate but still affords great opportunities for authors to leverage the brand equity of massive retailers like Amazon, Waterstones and Apple etc. An author site will serve as the hub for your online activities. The new sites are about half the price of our previous sites.

We’re really going in deep with social media, creating superb engagement with targeted use of carefully researched hashtags and account-following strategies to get books in front of the right readers. Top tip: follow the readers of authors who are similar to you to get maximum engagement.

And finally, Spiffing has developed a loss-leader campaign strategy, using a clever mix of free eBook price matching with exposure on a range of ‘free deal’ sites to accelerate reviews and ratings by orders of magnitude.

Using the above techniques we achieved over 300 ratings on Amazon.com and over 129 ratings on Goodreads (and counting) in less than three months on the book The Man Who Murdered His Stag by Stefan LeRoy. To recap, we use a combination of:

  • Amazon SEO
  • Amazon A+ content
  • New, single stacked page websites
  • Targeted Social Media
  • Loss-leader campaign

You can do some or all of the above and in any combination.

Some Spiffing Success Stories

A couple of new success stories to add in the last couple of weeks.

Dr Barry Monk’s sensational book Lifeline wins first prize in the Good Medical Practice section of the British Medical Association Medical Book Awards 2022. This is an incredible achievement for an independent publisher since all the other winners of this prestigious award were from major publishers such as Oxford University Press and Cambridge University Press. Dr Monk uses Spiffing for all services.

Novelist Helen Payton continues to dominate the Amazon charts with her historical drama title Bread and Buttermilk. She achieves a No.1 ranking in the Historical Fiction category (KDP) and No. 2 in Romance. Helen uses Spiffing for branding and Amazon A+ content.
